Revision Of The Large Personality Scale (IPIP-NEO-120)

Personality Inventory is important in psychological measurement field, it can used for Self-measurement.The IPIP-NEO-120 scale the paper revised was compiled by John A.Johnson on the basis of IPIP-NEO in the year of 2014, which was a new tool of exploring personality. The researchers chose students from six universities of Nanjing, Yangzhou,Xuzhou by means of stratified sampling. The norm sample are amounted to 1083,and of six universities,Nanjing university and Yangzhou university are key universities while the other four are ordinary ones.after three times’ translation and measuring, IPIP-NEO-120 was finally suitable for college students who are tested the scale of English edition IPIP-NEO-120 which had 120 items became the scale of Chinese edition which had 122 items, corresponding norm was formed. Conclusions are as follows:IPIP-NEO-120 has good reliability and validity, it can be used to measure their own personality in Jiangsu Province. Specific results are as follows:1、The scale. The formal scale is divided into 5 dimensions, such as Neuroticism(N), extraversion(E), Openness (O),agreeableness(A),conscientiousness(C), each has 24 items amounting to a total of 120 items,and it uses 5 points to rate. replacing 4 items of formal scale.2、Reliability analysis. Reliability of formal scale is good:The internal consistency coefficient( Cronbach-α) of total scale is 0.848;5 dimensions’ α are between 0.814(0) and 0.904(N); 30 facet’s a are between 0.601 and 0.864; after 2 weeks, test-retest reliability coefficients of 5 dimensions are between 0.700 and 0.882.3、Validity analysis.(1) Content validity:items content with authority, the translation process follows the meaning as much as possible, so that the content validity of the scale is better.(2) Construct validity:① The correlated coefficients among five dimensions are between 0.2 and 0.5.② The correlated coefficients among facet and involved dimension are above the other four.③ 5 factors extracted from 120 items are appropriate by exploring factor analysis; KMO is 120 items can account for 54.23% of variation; all the facets are in the dimension; factor loadings are all over 0.4 far more than non-target dimensions.④ Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA), showed that IPIP-NEO-120 can be fit to the data (GFI is 0.90, NFI is 0.84,CFI is 0.87, IFI is 0.87,these RMSEA<0.01, all indexs are nearly one.)(3)Crimson validity:Correlations between the formal scale and BFI in dimensions of extraversion and emotional stability are 0.623 and 0.784, which are very significant.4、Gender norm and mayor norm are established.Conclusion:The IPIP-NEO-120 has good reliability and validity.
