There were a few attentions on study cavalry for a long timein our weak research field of china military history, so theoverview of cavalry evolution was not represented clearly. Thethesis used "method of dual evidence" to study from the threerespects——the origin of the Central-Plains cavalry, thedevelopment of cavalry's equipments and the evolution of light, heavy cavalry. In the course of the study, some inaccuratestatements were identified and revised, surplus meanings wereexplored, the weak point was remedied, and the clue of theevolution of the wholly Central-Plains cavalry sixth centuryago was probed. The clue was that the eastern clan's traditionof ride, archery, herd and drive, the rise and decline of thecarriage army and the conversion of the Central-Plains fightmode were the internal causes of the origin and evolution ofthe Central-Plains cavalry. The borderland minority ethniccustom of ride and archery catalyzed the Central-Plains cavalryand provided normal for its initial development. This thesis was divided into three parts:Part one, Pursue the origin and course of Central-Plainscavalry pre-Qin period. Central-Plains cavalry as arm'smeaning was born in the Qin and Zhao state in the Middle andlater stage of the Spring and Autumn period. The eastern clan's(Compatriot Shang, Compatriot Qin, compatriot Zhao) traditionsof ride, archery were the internal causes of the origin of theCentral-Plains cavalry. The limitations of the carriage armyfight mode and its similar ride, archery and equipments withcavalry provided the condition for the rise of cavalry. Theminority ethnic cavalry and their open atmosphere activated theQin and Zhao's inherent factor of ride and archery, and offeredreference for the forming of the Central-Plains cavalry.Part two, the origin and evolution of the Central-PlainsCavalry's equipments. The exertion of the Central Plains cavalryman equipments were mainly influenced by Central-Plainstraditional custom. Cavalry offensive weapons reflected thesituation that the Central-Plain area weapons developed fromsingle function weapons (before Western Zhou Dynasty) tocompound function weapons to single function weapons (afterWestern Han Dynasty). The defensive equipments had beeninherited and developed the equipments of the carriage army;Real stirrups and shoes were the invention of the central plainarea. In addition, the equipments of the minority ethniccavalry weapons such as the rational distribution of theweapons, saddle and analog stirrups offered reference to theevolution of the Central-Plains cavalry equipments.Part three, the origin and evolution of the Central-Plainshussar and heavy cavalry. After the hussar, the Central-Plainsheavy cavalry began to rise in the middle and later periods ofWestern Han Dynasty. The JIAQIJUZHUANG in Wei, Jin and theSouthern and Northern Dynasties had the native characteristicof Central Plains very much. the tactics blank of the carriagearmy decline, the inheriting and development of carriagearmy's equipments, the conversion of the fighting region andthe restriction of war resource (such as battle steeds) spurredthe development of JIAQIJUZHUANG which paid attention to thedefensive and shock power among a small circle. What meritsattention was that the rise of the Central-Plains JIAQIJUZHUANGhad no positive connection with the development of the powerfulfamilies in Wei, Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynasties, which was different from the development of the western heavycavalry.
