Discussion On Klimt's Paintings Arts

Gustav Klimt is one of the representatives of the European Art Nouveau and the leading members of the Austria Vienna Secession. His works, with deep symbolistic connotations and rich Art-Deco-Style meanings, presented distinct expressive effects from other contemporary artists. Furthermore, the feminine subject matters and tragic scenario regarded and depicted by him added to the public interest in him in the 20th century. In this dissertation the cultural background of Gustav Klimt and the influences on the subsequent Art Deco by his works are studied in following aspects, to macroscopically understand his masterpieces as well as their unique artistic glamour, re-cognize his pioneering exploration into the field of Art Deco and identify the creative values of his works.Firstly, all Klimt's life and artistic activities are reviewed to get a holistic realization about him.Secondly, Klimt's painting style and the historical & cultural backgrounds for it's formation is discussed in detail. Klimt's styles can be divided into three periods according to the characters, and the middle period is clearly defined as"gold decorative style period"combined with the characters. Meanwhile the paper analyzed the profound influence of Oriental art and Art Nouveau to him.Thirdly, through the works format, the paper analyzed the artistic appeal of Klimt's works from the angles of color, lines and materials. The color of Klimt's works is golden, splendid and strongly contrasting; the lines in Klimt's works is elegant and graceful; Gold, silver and other materials were comprehensively used in his works, which broke through the tradition.Fourthly, the paper studied the theme of Klimt's painting, and his attitude about woman and life is revealed.
