"Modern Chinese Language Rhetoric", a book about rhetoric written by a Chineserhetoric scholar Zhang Gong, published in 1963, is regarded as a very important workthat inherits the past and proceeds into the future in the history of rhetoric. This bookhas influenced the whole academic circle widely and profoundly.Now an all-around and specific research on such a great work will assistant us toreexamine the practical achievement and the level of modem Chinese rhetoricresearch in 1950s and 1960s.
