Sax Rohmer was a famous novelist in the west in the early 20th century. The image of Fu Manchu that he produced in series novels influenced deeply the way that the west looked upon Chinese. This article quote extensively English documents to work out the characteristics of Fu Manchu, and the article try to analyse the reasons that the image of Fu Manchu appears and popularizes.The writer thinks that the image of Fu Manchu represents the imagine of eastern peril. Fu Manchu is the variant of prototype Chinese, it's appearance is inexorable. And the writer considers that the distinctive features of Fu Manchu and the influences of mass media turn Fu Manchu into a popular monster in the west.
