As a big problem in the development of country, the population problem is caredby the government all over the world, no matter in the past or now, especially inChina who has so many people. The population census is a method and the base ofadministering city. As the Model City in the period of the Republic of China, thepopulation census which happened in Guangzhou from 1925 to 1926 was a greatattempt through introducing foreign advanced experiment into China, and became animportant step to developed system.The entire census lasted one and a half year, in this period, the committee pastedmany statutes in July and started to census in September 1925, in the next year thepolice began to comb out population and then the section of social investigationsurveyed. The census had some particular characteristics than before, such as thecontent was added, the method innovated. It was successive and up-to-date. Thisaffected deeply not only the municipal government construction but alsoadministering population and making population policies of the Nanjing NationalGovernment.This thesis takes the population census in Guangzhou from 1925 to 1926 as aresearch object, makes an individual investigation of the case, so as to analyze itscharacteristics and impact. Through its background and process investigation,comparison with the other censuses and surveys in the other period, we can give anobjective comment in history, and find out its historical significance.
