Modality Adverb is comparatively complicated in its function and usage in modern Chinese. It has specialindividuality in the respects of syntax, semantic and pragmatic. The subject investigated in this paper are theModality Adverbs which have the meaning of "put up with ". Our study of these words is composed of fourparts except the preface and the summary.The preface of the paper mainly summarize the reason of choosing this subject and the purpose,significance of the research, the scope of the research,the origin of the corpora used in the paper.The first part made a semantic analysis of Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with". First we study thesemantic structure of the Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with". And then we induce the semanteme ofModality Adverbs Denoting "put up with" through many example sentences.The second part we study the sentence which include Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with" fromsentential forms and syntax categories. Then we try to summarize their syntactic character.The third part we study the sentence which include Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with" from theirco-occurrence and collocation with other words. First we investigated the co-occurrence of Modality AdverbsDenoting "put up with" and the dynamic auxiliary particle,mood particle, etc. Then we surveyed thecollocation of Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with" and the other Modality Adverbs. In addition, weanalyzed the limiting factors of co-occurrence and collocation.The fourth part we researched the pragmatic of the Modality Adverbs Denoting "put up with". First wesurveyed the presupposition and then we discuss the way and the function of their coherence.The last part is the summary which tells the main content and the deficiency of this paper.
