This thesis tales to establish Chinese oral idioms as a type of idiomsbased on the difficult points of idioms teaching in TCFL. We analyze the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic characteristics of Chinese oral idioms. We want to distinguishoral idioms from other idioms. Especially, we illuminate, the pragmatic characteristics ofChinese oral idioms, and emphasize the importance of context, which can lead us tofred out the speaker's mood and attitude.Textbook plays an important role in teaching, so we can see our teaching waysfrom textbooks. We make statistic analyses on four famous oral textbooks. Editors havenoticed this linguistic phenomenon of oral expression,and we suggest that we shouldadopt oral idioms in textbooks repeatedly. We make a research to verify whethertextbooks are scientific and rational on explanations of oral idioms and the managementof their exercises.Both Chinese oral idioms and phrases have literal meaning and crytic meaning. Wemake an investigation to test 20 Korean students who are studying Chinese. Subjects areasked to write the meaning of 20 oral idioms which are chosen by us in the form ofwritten reports. The oral idioms in the first report appear solely and the oral idioms inthe second report appear in the context.The results of the researches indicate that the context and transparency have aprominent effect on learners' understanding Chinese idioms. It is easier for learners tounderstand the oral idioms in the context, and higher transparent oral idioms are easierto be understood than lower transparent oral idioms. The context can help us tounderstand higher transparent oral idioms' meaning correctly while for lowertransparent oral idioms, the context plays a very important part in understanding themeaning.Based on the above analyses, this paper suggests that Chinese teachers should leadstudents to use context and literal meaning to understand oral idioms and make asummary in time, create conversational environment for students and encourage students to say more. Furthermore, we make some suggestions to editors to designexercises scientifically. Finally, we point out the further development of Chinese oralidioms.
