| 《LIYUZHENGGU》is one of《GUYATANG CONGZHU》that is written by Dingweifen, a renowned scholar during the near-modern times of China. It is about the dialect slang, using the vocal switch to seek the origin of dialect words and expressions. Today it provides us extremely precious materials and clues in the study of proverbs. In total, there are 14 chapters and 1,025 definitions of words in the book. Its content is vast, and the dialect slang materials are rich. It provides the written materials for us to go on researching the dialects and the folk customs from which they come.The first half of this thesis is a preliminary analysis of the author, dialect slang, style, and annotation characteristics. It is in contrast to《Fangyan》,《Er'Ya》,《Shiming》.The main focus of《LIYUZHENGGU》highlights the connection between the ancient and modern dialects by the use of the vocal switch, and so it can be used to inquire the source of words and expressions. Therefore this thesis also attempts to analyze the alliteration and assonance of these words and expression, and to determine how the author defines these words.The second part of this thesis focuses on the folkloric vocabulary from《Liyuzhengu》,setting them in folkloric culture background to inquire with methods of folkloric linguistics and other sciences. Successively this question is answered from a perspective that includes folk custom essential factors, the folkloric vocabulary classification, as well as development and change about the folk custom vocabulary and the rhetorical characteristic. This book was analyzed from many angles to create the structure of the folkloric vocabulary and unfold the specific style of folkloric vocabulary. The last the part of this thesis is a complete appraisal of《Liyuzhengu》, which highlights the value his work and some aspects that require further critique. This essay is an objective appraisal of the author's work, specifically how it accounts for regional differences and historical factors.In addition, the author analyzes some rules of interior pronunciation and the connection between dialects and proverbs.The author had an innovating spirit, and opened a new way for researching ancient works.However, it should be noted that he overemphasized the vocal switch, and so this thesis will discuss this point by analyzing some examples in order to seek to the real source of the words.《Liyuzhengu》is not only a dialect dictionary but also a dictionary of folkloric language. At present, there is not comprehensive research about this book, even though some contents are worthy of study.《Liyuzhengu》,which is about dialect and slang, was written by DingWeifen over several years .It has preserved the massive dialect materials, and has provided the text for us to go further to research the folkloric vocabulary, especially some dialects about folk materials that have ceased to exist or soon ceased to exist. It can serve to provide the basis when one reads the ancient literatures.
