After Liao dynasty in the first year destroyed the"hai dong sheng guo"Bohai, the Dongdan state as a very important local regime appeared in Northeast China. Liao dynasty set up this"kingdom in kingdom"soon after its establishment, which was determined by the Chidan's traditional management system and showed vivid characteristic of early Chidan country. In the short time of 26 years (926~952), after it moved to Liaoyang city in the South, the nature of Chitan country had changed from the beginning's independent vassal state to the local regime. After moving toward South, the administrative regionalization of capital, government, prefecture, county which followed original Bohai's was completely broke out, and the geographical distribution of Bohai people was fundamental changed. For the Bohai immigrants, the rulers in Liao dynasty excutes double administrative system which combines prefecture, county with tribe. Dongdan State's moving toward South, on one hand, alleviated the conflict between Chidan and Bohai nation; on the other hand, eliminated the imperial threat from the king of Dongdan State Yelv Bei. This was an important measure for Liao dynasty to strengthen the centralization of authority government. As the legal imperial inheritor of Liao dynasty, Yelv Bei, scheme by his mother Shulv queen, lost his crown in the replacement of imperial power after the death of Taizu, and was forced to give up the Chidan. Later he was under the closer guarding and monitoring from Yelv Deguang, so although he was the king of Dongdan state, he didn't master the real ruling power, and finally he was planned by Houtang Mingzong Li Siyuan to enter into Houtang for political refuge. Dongdan State was ruled by only two kings. Since Yelv Bei was killed by someone sent from Houtang final emperor Li Congke in 936, the position of the king had been absent for as long as 12 years. In the time of Shizong, Anduan was the king of Dongdan State, but in 952 he died of illness, which marks both nominal and real end of Dongdan State.
