The Awkward "Hero"

This article takes the "hero" image as research object in novels from 1979 to 1986. Separately divide the "hero" image which appearing in "the reforming literature", "Origin Inquiring literature",and "the educated youth recalling literature" into three categories: reformers who performs meritorious deeds in the social reform, "the primitive indigenous people" who demonstrated the life force in assaults with nature,and the educated youth joined a production team in the year to persevere ideal .Through analysis of time background and discrimination to different types "hero", and the explanation of status of different categories "hero" ,and the antithesis of them and their relations with the feminine to outline the " hero" image from prosperous process to declining process in this stage. This article believed that from 1979 to 1986, Chinese writers put the tentative plan of the "hero" imagination to the practice, from the Guangpu Qiao to Zhan'ao Yu. In the literary arena carried on "the Utopia-style exercise" of creation. Because lacking of the cultural support and the esthetic support, the "hero" image in the novel often in the "awkward" linguistic environment, and finally moved towards the impasse.
