The Generality About Inscription Literary Style And Tang Dynasty Inscription

Inscription is one of the most ancient literary styles in the Chinesewell-established prose history. Its development process embodies the general rules ofliterary style. However, there are not many scholars devoting to research in inscriptionat present. Although a part of scholars had done some development work at themacroscopic, the articles and monographs research about the literary style itself frommicroscopic are less. This article takes the literary style idea as the basic starting point,the text research as essential method. Firstly outline the origin and the changesprocess of pre-Tang dynasty inscription: The inscription originated at the Shangdynasty and the Zhou dynasty. It had followed an evolutionary process at the Qindynasty and the Han dynasty. And inscription was standard and perfect in the Weijinperiod. By researching the meaning of the "inscription" in the character philology andthe views of ancient and modern scholars we have the definition of inscription: Theinscription is a literary style that engrave on the mountain,utensil and building. Ithas the function of recording and praising merit,guard and eulogizing. It has threeconnotations: At first as a literary style the content of inscription often reflect theobject of engraving, but there a part of inscription have no the object of engraving, sobe engraved or not is not the judgment basis of inscription. Secondly the content ofinscription are eulogizing and guard, its basic literature expression means arerecord,discussion and description. The basic literary style character of inscriptionare gentle,reality and deep. There are different classified standard of inscription.According to function and content the inscription is divided into the inscription ofrecording and praising merit,the inscription of guard and the inscription of eulogizing.And according to the object of engraving the inscription is divided into the inscriptionof mountain,the inscription of utensil,the inscription of building and theinscription having no object of engraving. This article takes the full developmentperiod of inscription Pre-Tang dynasty as the stress researching stage. Base onauthors,works,background,characteristic inheriting of inscription literary style andanalyze the innovation of each different of stage of Tang dynasty. Inscription followedthe ancient system and fermented new changes in initial Tang dynasty. "Sound ofglorious age of Tang dynasty" embodied in inscription. Inscription achieved creationpeak at the middle Tang dynasty and receded at the late Tang dynasty. At last weanalysis the innovations of inscription in the system,the literature and the ideologicaland draw the conclusion. The rise and fall of style is an inevitable tendency. Firstlythe literary style its own inherent law is the changing factor of literary styledevelopment. Secondly the social culture,the spiritual style,the social behavior andthe demand to the literary style development are the restriction function of literarystyle development. Finally the author's unique art experience,the feeling and thecreativity impetus the inherent literary style. Those three are also the reasons of whyTang dynasty is the development peak of inscription.
