Some exited versions of The Secret History of Mongols is theversion that Mongolians were spelt by Chinese characters. Eachword of Mongolian word is marked by pronunciation and in themeantime, also paying attention to meaning-translation. Besides,there are side—translation and comprehensive—translation. On thebasis of premiers research, this paper researches systematically on554 pronunciation translating Chinese character.The paper is made of three parts: the preface, the main con-tent that includes three chapters, and the bibliography. In preface,the writer interprets the purpose and sense of choosing this topic,the study situation and the researching means. In the first chapterof the second part, it statistics the Chinese characters Which used inmeaning translation, introducing the special characters that werechoose in order to translate by meaning and explaining them. Thesecond chapter mainly introduces every Chinese characters whichmarked on each syllables of Mongols and interprets in catalogues thecompound of single vowel syllable, double syllable and consonantsyllable. The third chapter analyzes the features and kinds of Chinese characters marking and the usage of it.The paper describes the features of marking the pronunciationby Chinese characters in The Secret History of Mongols in themeans of description, comparison and statistics, and make a com-parative research on double syllables and Huiwu Mongols and BasbaMongols.
