A Study Of The Verbs In The Secret History Of The Yuan Dynasty

As one of the most important documents,the Secret History of Mongols is a book related to Mongolian history,languages,literature,religion,society,etc,which is regarded as the encyclopedia of the 13 th century.The study of this book has been become an international academic field named the subject of the Secret History of Mongols.I use methods of collation,reversion and translation to solve the problem of verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.I also note the particularity of this book which is lost for the Mongolian text and divide my paper into four sections to discuss the verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.Part I: Introduction.I introduce the research situation of the verbs in the Secret History of Mongols in this section.I present sorts of conclusions of the verbs which were based on the former scholars.The language of the Secret History of Mongols belongs to the mediaeval Mongolian language.I compare the book with other documents written in Mongolian words in the same and later times.Finally I conclude the definition and classification of the verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.Part II: Studies on the simple verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.I define and classify the simple verbs of the Secret History of Mongols.I figure out two simple verbs “il-”and “ir-” as a case to study.I analyze the collation,reversion and translation of the two above verbs.I make a comparison of usage of the two above verbs in the Secret History of Mongols with other documents written in Mongolian words in the same times.I draw a conclusion that “il-”and “ir-” are two different Mongolian simple verbs,which were also confused in the Secret History of Mongols.Part III: Studies on the derived verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.I define and classify the derived verbs of the Secret History of Mongols.I also figure out two groups of the derived verbs “toro-”and “t?r?-” as a case to study.As above section,I analyze the collation,reversion and translation of the derived verbs “toro-”and “t?r?-”.I compare the usage of “toro-”and “t?r?-” in the Secret History of Mongols with other documents written in Mongolian words in the same times.Finally I conclude that “toro-”and “t?r?-” are two different expressions in the Secret History of Mongols,which are used as the suffix of “-bi” to express the female and singular forms.There are only the expressions of “toroba” and “torogsen” revived in the modern Mongolian language.Part IV: Studies on the auxiliary verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.I define and classify the auxiliary verbs of the Secret History of Mongols.I figure out two groups of the auxiliary verbs “a-/b-”and “bai-/bol-” as a case to study.I compare the auxiliary verbs of the Secret History of Mongols with their usage in modern Mongolian language.I think “a-/b-”and “bai-/bol-” are two groups of the synchronic auxiliary verbs in the Secret History of Mongols.The auxiliary verb “a-/b-” is widely used in modern Mongolian language,while another auxiliary verb “bai-/bol-” is barely used.
