This thesis is mainly composed of four parts--- the introduction, Herodotus' work History and the Scythians, the comparative study on the legends of Scythians of History and The Secret History of the Mongols, and a brief conclusion.In introduction, the writer tells the reasons of the topic selection, the progress of the study, the role of the study, and the research techniques.In chapter one, there are three sections:Herodotus, History, and Scythians.In section one, are given a brief introduction of Herodotus, his sense of historiography and his impact on the future generationsIn section two, are introduced Herodotus' masterpiece History and discussed the achievements of the History.In section three, are introduced the life time, living environment, customs and daily lifestyle of Scythians briefly. Furthermore, the writer also introduced the graziery, weapons and arts of Scythians in detail.In chapter two, it is made up of literature features of the History and Secret History of the Mongols and a comparative study on the Scythian legends recorded in the History and legends in The Secret History of the Mongols. It mainly explores Scythians on the north shore of the ancient Black sea, at the same time, makes a comparative study on the historical legends of two nomads. Details are as follows:In the first section, the writer summarizes features of the History from three aspects according to previous research achievements and carries out a comparative study on the combination of historical and literary characteristics in the History and The Secret History of the Mongols.In the second section, the writer makes a detailed comparison to the legends of Scythians in Herodotus' History and legends in the Secret History of the Mongols. Then the writer puts forward the possibility of historical and cultural heritage between the Scythians and Mongolians as they both belong to the Central Asian nomads.In the conclusion part, the writer generalizes the contents of the whole paper.
