The Mongolian pattern design which developed recently with a long history, is a kind of folk pattern art and has very distinctive characteristics. The art products from the combination of national culture and modern life are usually more significant regarding the aesthetic value."Pattern"is generally called"Hewugalj"in Mongolian."Wugalj"originally meant the beautiful curly horn of argali and now the curly patterns of any shape, while the other patterns are called"He". Mongolian design is part of the Grassland Culture with a wealth of cultural information in it.We can teach national folk pattern in middle school art classes to explore the local culture recourses and develop our traditional culture. Therefore, it is very significant to teach Mongolian patterns in the minority middle schools in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, to enable students to comprehend our traditional national culture, and deepen their aesthetic judgment. For thousands of years, the patterns and designs which remained quite stable, have been reflecting the very basic aesthetic interest of Mongolians, and influencing directly the development of the national aesthetic conceptions. All those characteristics have been playing very positive and vital roles in the course of national art development.Patterns are decorative art that performing very practical functions to enable people to obtain sensuous of pleasure from the various kinds of decorations. The characteristics of patterns enabled them have a unique artistic language which is highly refined and condensed to the acme of perfection. However, it would sometimes be too boring to just lecture or appreciate the patterns in our teaching. Therefore, it is very important to explore the effective teaching methods in our teaching to get students interested in Mongolian Patterns.Mongolian pattern art which is closely related to folklore, ethnology and socio-aesthetics, is a part of the Mongolian traditional folk art. Therefore, we can undoubtedly bring about a great advance in deepening the students'aesthetic judgment by grasping national art characteristics, providing students chances to experience the beauty of national art in their daily life and study and have students fully perceive the traditional culture in Mongolian Designs.
