Time Art And Space Art

In 18th century G.E.Lessing (1729——1781) was a famous esthetician and theoretician of the literature of Germany. He was a founder of German modern literature and a major representative figure of German Enlightenment Campaign. After having absorbed extensively various rational viewpoints of many thinkers in different times, he put forward his unique theory of literature and art, especially Laocoon, the issues he lays and discusses in his aesthetics work Laocoon, are all the essential problem of aesthetics and literature theory, has great value which cannot be overlooked.In my dissertation, I mainly discuss the important theory about poetry and paintings of Lessing's theory. Include the boundary between poetry and painting, under the background of the practice of art compose and the theory of art, the limitation and evolvement of Lessing's theory about poetry and painting.It is very important for us to tell the differences between model art and the art which do not belong to model art,which not only is the key to accurately catches Lessing's theory, but it is also positive importance for the construct and perfect the theory of Literature and painting. The dissertation consists of three parts.In my dissertation, I discuss three respects of the heterogeneity of poetry and painting——intermedium, material, pursue effects. Lessing believes that painting uses"natural symbol"which appositely exist to portray object that exist in the space, it is space-art, follow the space rule, pursue beauty; poetry by means of languages, letters that sequential in time to imitate matter that happening in time, follow time rule, pursue truth.The second part of my dissertation explains the homology of poetry and painting in Lessing's theory. Lessing thinks,time and space is not utterly opposed to each other. So painting as space-art and poetry as time-art under certain conditions may break the boundary and supplement mutually.The last part mainly touches on the new development of the poetry and painting theory, which under modern composing practice and theory. As time goes by, composing practice and theory is getting progress continuously.The simple differences of the boundary between time-art and space-art, which are composed by Lessing has been broken.First, imitation is not regard as essence of literature anymore. Exhibition become pursue by the modern art. In addition, one of the theoretical foundation of Lessing's theory about poetry and painting——mechanical space-time view has been upset, people have new views about space and time, time-spaced, space-timed has been the joint foundation of poetry and painting. At last, the epoch Lessing living unremitting pursue beauty, in new ages, turn to confirm and display ugly. Although, the situation is like this, there still exists a difference between poetry and painting, and each of them belongs to a different art style.
