Chinese manufacturing advances rapidly, which makes the products with a symbol of"made in China"prevail around the world. However, China doesn't make a large profit from imports & exports. That is because"made in China"only stands for low price but not high quality. As a result, making Chinese manufacturing turn from"made in China"to"design in China"has become the common goal of Chinese designers and manufacturing. The paper first concludes the concept of culture from anthropology. It points out the uniqueness of Chinese culture by referring to the world culture history. Then it leads to the Chinese traditional artistic conception theory. Through expounding all aspects of Chinese traditional artistic conception theory, we find that, artistic conception theory is actually an aesthetic theory of oriental charm. The conception it advocates fits the development of modern Chinese industrial design very much. Keeping this theory as foundation to construct a traditional artistic conception, then the Chinese design will form true"Chinese style", which is the innovative point of the paper.Through analyzing both the actuality of industrial design and the successful examples of traditional culture applied in other design fields, we find that, in industrial design, constructing traditional artistic conception means to syncretize traditional culture into modern products. That is because artistic conception is a kind of aesthetics itself. Finally, the paper concludes the levels of traditional artistic conception and the way it is constructed. By researching on the application of Chinese traditional artistic conception to industrial design, we hope it will help designers to know better of traditional culture, lead people to have a better understanding of traditional culture, push Chinese industrial design to develop independently, and finally provide a wider road for the combination of Chinese traditional culture and modern design.
