As a kind of traditional painting in our country, mural sprang up at Han, prospered at Tang and declined at the period of Song, Yuan Dynasty. Up to now, a lot of mural paintings are still kept in the area of Yuannan Province, situated at the minority part in Southwest of China, even though it has declined at Yuan Dynasty in the central part of our country. In particular, Baisha Mural has formed a new expressive way of painting with the artistic features of Han nationality, Tibet and Naxi, which has made it possess high value and become an important part of Chinese mural.Baisha Mural in Lijiang reflects two pieces of important ideas of Buddhism—MiZong in the area of Tibet and XianZong, of Han nationality, as well as the fusion of Buddhism and .Taoism because of tha varied subjects from them. Besides, it represents an expressive technique with features of Han an, Tibet in terms of sty, e.The comparative research has been made between the Baisha murals and the Dunhuang murals in this essay so as to find out their connections, similarities, dissimilarities as well as transmitting. In addition, by comparing the murals all over the world during the period of Renaissance, the diff rences between the West and China were taken on in the research paper.The research on it would be useful to its cultural protection and development. At the same time, my essay aims at provoking people's concern on its artistic style and content which would be the best way of preservation.
