J·Hillis Miller, a famous literary critic in America, the remarks of him on "An end to literature" brought in the context of the west have caused a time consuming debate in china since the metaphase of 1990s.Though the debate of the scholars belong to academic circle in China on "An end to literature" in relation to the change of literary state in the contemporary era, in fact, the understanding of Miller's viewpoints on "An end to literature" is need to find out the context of Miller's viewpoints and comprehend its connotation.This thesis consists of three chapters.In the first chapter, discuss of the academic root--Hegel's viewpoints of art'stermination and Derrida's views on "An end to literature" of Miller's views about "An end to literature". The second chapter, the meaning of Miller's "An end to literature" is analyzed on three aspects. The third chapter, discuss the journey of theory about "An end to literature" from the west to China, analyze the causes of the debate and misread, and represent deeply enlightenment of Miller's theory to Chinese academic circle.
