Living in the national disorder of Southern Tang Dynasty, Feng Yansi's unique experience and personal temperament made his Ci have unique artistic style, which can be summarized"agony alternating with happiness and touching with hepatic depression". This style was evaluated as"testing solemnness trousseau with tears"by Wang Guowei."Testing"is the attempt for maintaining the beautiful of solemnness trousseau. The spirit of"knowing the impossibilities but persevering"is just the characteristic of Feng Yansi's Ci. With the unique creation of his Ci works, Feng Yansi have made a significant contribution to the development of Ci, which made him occupy an important position in the history of Ci. Looking at the research results on Feng Yansi over the years, following several problems have been not very thoroughly informatived in the discussion of predecessors: which unique artistic style did Feng Yansi have, what kind of manifestation was used in his works, and what were the reasons for the formation of such style. Begin with the artistic style of"agony alternating with happiness and touching with hepatic depression", this article had an overall interpretation on Feng Yansi's Ci works.This thesis expands from three aspects on the artistic style of Feng Yansi's Ci.The introduction gave a brief description on the classification criteria of Ci style in the research history of Ci study, and made a discussion begin with the definition of style. With times background and the evaluation of experts, it gave an umbrella presentation on Feng Yansi's Ci.The first chapter discussed the kind of manifestation of Feng Yansi's Ci from three aspects—the contrast of scenery images, the comparison of situation now and then, and the fluctuation of emotion.The second chapter discussed the gender roles and sustenance of Feng Yansi's Ci. The gender roles in the majority of his Ci works were ambiguous. This characteristic made the feature of expressing feelings have more profound meaning.The three chapter discussed the genesis of artistic style of Feng Yansi's Ci. It included five aspects: times background, the tragic fate of Feng Yansi's own, the consciousness of servility and anxiety of Feng Yansi, the unique image selection, and the effect of poetic style in late Tang Dynasty.
