We live in a society, complicated by the variety of a network of interpersonal relationships. To university students who are studying and developing, good interpersonal skills is not only the needs for university life, the needs for the social but also an important part of the community. In some sense, interpersonal competence is the comprehensive reflection of university student's social adaptability. Personality traits caused by the personality necessary, the decision by the judge acts personality formed by a reaction set. Personality is a person different from the others, the unique and stable psychological quality. It is the driving force of the deep. The development of individuals has played a pivotal role. Cultivating fine personality traits of university students is to make them form fixed tend of behavior in different situations which meet the needs of society. Research on personality traits and interpersonal relations capacity for training university students'sound personality and to improve their interpersonal skills are of great theoretical and practical significance.Presently, many university campuses have various problems in interpersonal relations and few opportunities to socialize especially with the heterosexual because they have heavy study load and few activities. This dissertation, therefore, is targeted at the relationship between students'interpersonal communication status and personality traits in universities, and work out valuable solution to the problem. On the basis of overviews of previous researches on personality traits and interpersonal competence, the "Eysenck Personality Questionnaire" (adult) and the East China Normal University, Wang Jun and others prepared "students interpersonal skills questionnaire" had been employed in this study, thre were 638 university students taken by the author as informants. The result suggested that:1. In introversion-extroversion, male and female university students were significantly different, and the former was higher than the latter; city students and countryside students were significantly different, and the former was higher than the latter;students of science and students of liberal arts were significantly different, and the former was higher than the latter; but, the difference of grades was little. In the psychosis, sex, city-countryside, specialty and grade had little difference. In the psychoticism, students of science and students of liberal arts were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; the senior was in the highest level, and then sophomore, junior ,fresher; but the difference in sex and city-countryside was little. In the self-esteem, female students and male students were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; but the difference in city-countryside, specialty and grade was little.2. In the cognizance-appraisal, students of science and students of liberal arts were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; but the difference in sex, city-countryside and grade was little. In the sensitivity, students of liberal arts and students of science were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; but the difference in sex, city-countryside and grade was little. In the social withdrawal, male students and female students were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; there were significantly different in grade, the higher the grade, the higher the intensity; but the difference in city-countryside and specialty was little. In the intentionality, female students and male students were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; the fresher was in the highest level, and then senior, sophomore, junior; but the difference in city-countryside and specialty was little. In collective interpersonal competence of students, female students and male students were significantly different, the former was higher than the latter; but the difference in city-countryside, specialty and grade was little.3. Personality traits were significantly correlated with interpersonal competence, except psychosis and self-esteem with cognizance-appraisal Introversion-extroversion and self-esteem showed a significantly positive correlation, and neurosis and psychosis showed a negative correlation.4. Personality traits of university students could predict interpersonal competence greatly.5. The personality of university students were classified egoistical and willful, withdrawn and moderate, passional and stable three types .And these students were significantly different in interpersonal competence.
