Interpersonal conflict is a kind of common and unavoidable interaction behavior in human social activities,which has been paid much attention by scholars because of its important aspects as social relations.Interpersonal oriented personality traits is to interpret personality from the angle of interpersonal relationship,and to some extent,it has important influence on interpersonal conflict events.Therefore,the study of interpersonal oriented personality traits in the context of interpersonal conflict helps us to better understand the behavior of individuals in interpersonal conflicts.This study is divided into two parts:first,we use the subscale Cross-Cultural(Chinese)Personality Assessment Inventory(CPAI)-the interpersonal relatedness personality inventory(IR)will be employed to serve as the basic instrument of personality assessment.The participants were from Shanghai Normal University,East China University of Science and Technology,Shanghai Institute of Technology,we select the persons with highest and lowest scores as high or low score group for the next step of research.In the first study,we use the imaginative experience paradigm to evaluate nine interpersonal conflict coping styles,and the behavioral tendency of individuals in interpersonal conflict situations.The second study is based on the first study's result,the result shows high and low interpersonal orientation has a significant differences on the choice of power assertion.In the second study,we use the event related potential technology,let the participants evaluate the use of power assertion in interpersonal conflict situations to investigate the differences when they processing interpersonal conflict information,and then find their differences on inducing ERP components.The results of the first study shows:when faced with interpersonal conflict,there are differences between high interpersonal relatedness and low interpersonal relatedness in the choices of conflict strategies,high interpersonal relatedness tend to choose negotiation and low interpersonal relatedness tend to choose power assertion,it means compared with low interpersonal relatedness,high interpersonal relatedness have a stronger tendency to maintain harmony and avoid conflict.The results of the second study shows:when faced with interpersonal conflict,there are differences between high interpersonal relatedness and low interpersonal relatedness on inducing ERP component.Compared with high interpersonal relatedness,low interpersonal relatedness reduces more negative LNC component,it shows that low interpersonal relatedness perceives conflict more strongly.Through the above two studies,we can draw the following conclusions:in interpersonal conflict situations,individuals tend to maintain harmony,but high interpersonal orientation is more inclined to maintain harmony and avoid conflicts than those with low interpersonal orientation,and the feelings of conflict are not as strong as those with low interpersonal orientation.
