The Rhetoric Of Chinese And The Lexical Meaning Development

Lexical meaning will not develop without the rhetoric. We can say that the rhetoric has been playing an important role in lexical meaning development. We will discuss the relation between the rhetoric and the lexical meaning development systematically, including the negative rhetoric and the positive rhetoric.Firstly, the thesis reviews the general study on lexical meaning, in which some experts had already referred to the rhetoric's role. Secondly, the thesis put emphasis on the relation of the rhetoric and the lexical meaning and put forward that the rhetoric can filter and transfer the lexical meaning in two aspects: negative rhetoric and positive rhetoric. At last, we give some examples of Figures of Speech which have something to do with the lexical meaning development.The study of the dynamic development of the lexical meaning will provide a more powerful explanation for Chinese vocabulary development and be of great practical value. It can cause people lay stress on the teaching of rhetoric meaning in TCFL and will be beneficial to the compilation of the dictionary or the rhetoric dictionary.
