| This thesis is meant to discuss the subjective & objective causes of Yu Feian's painting style in his Chinese flower-bird fine brushwork through a case study, trying to dig out its profound causes of forming his personal painting style. The paper fully affirms Yu's great artistic achievements together with their important impacts by classifying his works into four phases through simply reviewing his personal painting stylistic characteristics, then attaches importance to analyzing the causes of forming his personal painting style.Firstly, Yu Feian's Chinese flower-bird fine brushwork established his personal artistic foundation by absorbing the traditional artistic essence. Secondly, Yu Feian effectively uses folk art for reference to enrich his individualized style, attempting to gain enlightenment from classical literature. Thirdly, Yu further perfected his personalized style in his artistic practice.Meanwhile, the objective factors such as social life, the era spirit, the penetration of artistic conception and thinking trend all make his painting content suitable to both refined and popular tastes, thus opening a new horizon of contemporary Chinese flower-bird fine brushwork. Therefore, in this thesis Yu Feian is recognized as an important art figure inheriting the past and usher in the future, whose explorations and innovations in contemporary Chinese flower-bird fine brushwork have impacted a whole era.
