Based on the analysis and knowledge of international business English done by our predecessors, the author regards business English as a crossed subject in this essay, which consists of language media and professional use. Yet international business English is not a simple sum of business plus English but a systematic combination of the two elements. The specialty and pertinence of international business English on the lexical, syntactic, and stylistic levels have shown that the traditional full translation can not fully meet current needs; in addition, it can not give reasonable explanation to some existing adapting facts in theory. The author thinks that the Theory of Translation put forward by Professor Huang Zhonglian fills the blank of full translation.Adapting Translation is done under certain specific conditions to meet certain specific readers' certain specific needs by the translator through eleven adaptation methods concluded from seven adaptation means in order to further optimize the target content information, macroscopical form, information quality and translator's efforts, etc. Seven adaptation means are addition, reduction, compilation, commentary, combination, abridgment, alteration and eleven adaptation methods are extracting translation, editing translation, describing translation, compressing translation, summarizing translation, summary and comment translation, commenting translation, rewriting translation, transforming translation, expatiating translation and referring translation. This essay starts with international business English which the Theory of Adaptation is applied to. Through explanation and illustration step by step, the Theory of Adaptation brings translators enlightenment. This essay is made up of four chapters.Chapter one gives a brief introduction of international business English and international business English Translation, including definition and features of business English, and description of similarity and difference between interpretation and translation of business English, and business English translation's standard, stylistic features, intention and special characteristics. Nowadays, with increasingly fast world economy development and more and more international communication activities, no matter in written or in spoken, international business English translation has played a very important role in promoting mutual economy exchange. Chapter two defines the Theory of Adaptation. With a list of adapting facts to commence the analysis, the chapter compares the differences between full translation and adapting translation, brings forward a brand-new scientific translation theory-the Theory of Adaptation, according to professor Huang Zhonglian, including the essence and system, seven adaptation means and 11 adaptation methods, etc. The Theory of Adaptation is summarized from adaptation practice to reflect adaptation's essence and its scientific theory and system. The Theory takes adaptation as research subject, studying the general features and laws of adapting process to seek out a theory and ways applicable to all adaptation. It is characterized by more information capacity, faster spreading speed, better information quality, shorter text, less time and more pertinent.Chapter three introduces the eleven adaptation methods concluded from seven adaptation means. Through defining, listing and exemplifying each method, the author intends to show how these methods are used in business English documents translation with inadequate samples for a tentative study.Chapter four is some enlightenment obtained from study of the Theory of Adaptation, including adaptation's features, advantages and a summary of adapting process. The Theory is proved knowledge, a product of history, an achievement of human adapting experiences, a system with a series of concepts and strictly logical judgments.Chapter five is the conclusion.
