Jin Yong, who is named Louis Cha, is one of the most popular writers in the Chinese world. It is almost 50 years of Jin Yong's upsurge since the year 1955 when his first martial arts novel The Book and The Sword was serialized in the New Evening Post of Hong Kong. Many studies have been made about his novel and his composition. However, it is a pity that most of these studies just remain on the surface, with few deep insights into the significance and values behinds the characters in his novels. This article starts with a brief introduction of Jin Yong's life and composition, and then goes on to analyze the character shaping in his novels in terms of culture, archetype and some other factors. It is the author hope that this article will be of some value and novelty for the studies of Jin Yong's works and thus become a gateway to a new research area for the issue related.
