The Chinese poetry experienced a big transformation from 1918 to 1920. Hushi and other writers initiated the "New Poetry Movement", introduced vernacular into poetry writing, and abandoned a series of limitations of the old-style poem. Writers like Luxun, Zhou-Zuoren, Shen-Yinmo, Guo-Moruo all published the vernacular poetry in "New youth" and other magazines or published vernacular poetry anthology. In view of the vernacular poetry of this time, this article abandons its concrete meaning and gives it a comparison with the old-style poetry. Beginning with the method of "reading attentively" of the text, it analyzes their differences in language, image and line arrangement, etc. The article then forms a conclusion that although the early vernacular poetry devoted to the form liberation, it was still influenced greatly by the traditional culture. This can be testified in the poems written by Hushi and other writers. We can see the mark of old-style poetry in their early works. The early vernacular poetry were immature in language, image and line arranges, but it provided a guide for the vernacular poetry's further development, and also acted as a reference to modern vernacular poetry writing. Moreover, it broke the situation of the classical Chinese monopolizing poetry, and established a poetry form that can be understood and written by most people. And this is the early vernacular poetry's biggest significance.
