"Weeds"is a collection of prose poems created by Lu Xun, which possesses profound philosophy connotation. As a work full of sentimentality and philosophy, it has explored diverse inner activities and complicated spiritual world in depth. It contains almost all the philosophical thoughts of Lu Xun.Lu Xun's"Weeds"represents his special life experience and his deep understanding of existence. The strong life consciousness has constantly run through a couple of chapters of"weeds". In his life consciousness, Lu Xun advocates life power. Therefore, he takes a particular liking for poets of Satanical school, whose spirits, especially revolt spirits against reality, has attracted and been stressed by Lu Xun. According to him, life power is displayed and released in fighting against desperation and as well beauty of life is unfolded. In his opinion, the limited life of an individual is nothing but a link of the human life evolution. Likewise, individual ideology is merely a stage in the whole process of human thought development. Individual life is limited, so is individual ideology. In both these aspects, an individual is an"intermediate". The fate of a revolter or a fighter must have a touch of tragedy, life tragedy, which is their inescapable destiny. In the path of combating dark emptiness, Lu Xun presses ahead alone. His loneliness and solitude is imaginable. However, it is with such an extraordinary courage and tenacity that Lu Xun has been seeking his self-salvation, acquiring independent freedom in his exclusive spiritual world. In"Weeds", Lu Xun's life consciousness is disclosed when he tries to acquire a sense of independent freedom with"his inner transcendence". His life consciousness is also revealed in the desperate revolt against dark reality. In"Weeds", although Lu Xun has used abstruse and obscure expressions to reveal his innermost thoughts and feelings, it also lets loose his concern about"major issues"of"modern China"as a modern Chinese intellectual. In the back of the obscure soliloquy and the tension of a nation's fate is Lu Xun's life experience as a modern Chinese intellectual and his fatality thoughts. Lu Xun's dual understanding of life freedom and responsibility dovetails western existentialism. What Lu Xun wants to overthrow in"Weeds"is not only the demos'values and morality, but also some basic values advocated in reasons of enlightenment.Lu Xun's painful experience is everywhere in his creations, in particular in his"Weeds". In this work, the desperate pain interweaves with desperate fight, mainly represented in the following aspects: First, the desperation of reality and the fierce fight against intangible obstacles; second, the desperation of and revenge on the demos. And lastly, with the criticism of self-soul accompanied by self-consciousness revelation, his pain and fight reaches the deepest: that is, pain of self denial and efforts to transcendent oneself.A noticeable character of all the warriors and fighters is"know the futility yet do it anyway". Lu Xun, a fighter, stands alone in the intersection of life and society. He not only has to suffer from regret and pain brought about by disintegration and death of former fighters, but also confront with the unexpected swords and arrows from so called decent men and aggressive youths. In such a dilemma, in injuries and revolt alternately, in fighting and desperation alternately, and in hope and hopelessness alternately, Lu Xun, with great courage and fortitude, moves forward with great efforts in his path of ideals. The path is a lonely path, the fight a lonely fight. All the merits and loss, ups and downs, all the loves and hatred falls into oblivion in the merriment and pain of fighting.
