An Inspiration From Ezra Pound: Image Translation And Equal Cultural Communication

With the development of translation studies, more and more scholars in this field have come to realize that translation is not only related to the conversion from one language to another, but also concerned with two cultures behind SL and TL. From the perspective of postcolonial theory, this thesis studies cultural communication in modern age and inspired by Ezra Pound's translation strategy, the author puts forward image translation in the hope that it may promote equal cultural communication.With the help of postcolonial theory, the author finds that there are two kinds of cultures in terms of their power in cultural communication—privileged culture and underprivileged culture. Influenced by the unequal power they manifest in cultural communication, the translator usually adopts different strategies when dealing with translation between these two kinds of cultures. As a result, the current translation strategies indirectly enlarge the gap between privileged culture and underprivileged culture, which in turn hinders equal cultural communication and runs counter to multi-cultural concept.In order to address the issue, inspired from Ezra Pound's translation perspective, the author puts forward the strategy of image translation and hopes that it may provide a platform on which equal cultural communication can be achieved.
