Herbert Marcuse was one of the most significant representative figures of Frankford school.Marcuse argued that, with rapid development of the industrial civilization in the contemporary developed capitalist society, people's need to material wealth has already been satisfied;meanwhile, also makes peace the persons opposing or unsatisfied with the social system so as to make them submit to the ruling class. Consequently, it appeared a total alienation in the capitalist society, from science and technology to cultural circles, from labour to consumer fields, from man's thought to social psychology, and even from human beings to the relation between man and nature.Marcuse tried to uncover social essence that people are dominated and constrained by the present social system through the outside appearance that is highly free and prosperous. We should pay special attention to the Marcuse's Critique on the essence and causes of problems in industrialized society. We must face up to the changes going on in capitalist countries in recent decades, especially after the World War II, and study the problems from Marxist viewpoint, then extract some new interpretations, developing Marxism. From a Marxist viewpoint, author appraises Marcuses' theories on alienation, the new structure of working class, the identity of science and technology and ideologies; negation and revolution, the means and subjects of revolution. Marcuses' theories is not only helpful in grasping the essence and effects of ideology in the view of Marxism, but also in recognizing the development of the world, taking advantage of science and technology, sticking to Concept of Scientific Development, constructing a harmonious society.
