A Study On Marcuse's Contradiction Theory Of "Eros And Civilization"

Eros is an inherent and important desire of human beings as biological individuals.It affects all aspects of human beings,ranging from ethnic reproduction to interpersonal communication.However,the satisfaction of love and desire is not achieved overnight,and it is difficult to maintain it.Especially in the current situation,which is firmly enveloped by the rule of modern industrial civilization,the contradiction and conflict between love and civilization has aroused the philosophers'interest in thinking and exploring for it.Marcuse has always been a leading figure in Frankfurt School."Radicalism" and "revolution"are often synonyms of his philosophical thoughts.His Eros and Civilization is undoubtedly a philosophical work that systematically explores the contradiction between eroticism and modern material civilization.Marcuse's philosophical views are different from those of the traditional Marxists in this book.Therefore,the controversy over his ideological theory has never been stopped.But this can not hide the fact that his extraordinary theoretical conception in Eros and Civilization deserves our study.Therefore,this paper will take Marcuse's Eros and Civilization as the main text of the study,combining with other works of Marcuse and his main philosophical ideas,to philosophically interpret and sort out Freud's ontology of eroticism.This paper makes a holistic demonstration of the contradictory concept of "Eros and Civilization"to explore Marcuse's unique ontology and methodology reflected in this work.This paper systematically explores Marcuse's contradictory concept of "Eros and Civilization"by using holism,the method of unity of history and logic,contradictory analysis and text hermeneutics.It mainly includes the following aspects:After the first part of the introduction,the second part introduces the background context of the contradictory concept of "Eros and Civilization",and focuses on three aspects of its ideological origin:first,criticizing and inheriting Freud's contradictory relationship between "Eros and Civilization";second,reforming and developing Marx's alienated labor theory and labor liberation theory;third,combining surplus value theory with additional repression.On this basis,we hold the position of historical materialism and innovatively put forward that the contradiction between"Eros and Civilization" should be included in the specific social background.Therefore,we can draw three main reasons for the realistic background:first,the vigorous development of the scientific and technological revolution;second,the increasingly mild class contradictions;third,the increasingly serious alienation phenomenon.The third part concentrates on exploring the contradictions.Firstly,the author compares the connotation of the concept of erotic desire with that of sexual desire,clarifies and explains that erotic desire in the sense of Marcuse's philosophy is the ontological thought after the transformation of Freud's ontological philosophy of erotic desire,and introduces how the contradiction theory of "Eros and civilization"combines surplus value theory with extra depression.Then it comes to the discussion of the main part of the contradiction between eroticism and civilization:contradictions are mainly manifested in the repression and additional repression of eroticism,as well as the alienation of labor under the rule of operational principles,happiness and freedom deprived of by modern material civilization.Contradictions arise mainly because of the conflict and conquest of the principle of happiness by realistic principles and the need of capitalist rule to safeguard class interests.The fourth part puts forward the solution of the contradiction between "Eros and civilization"and its possible prospect——establishing a non-repressive civilization.Firstly,there are three factors leading to the disappearance of contradictions:the historical limitations of operational principles,the historical progress of science and technology and the resistance of human instinct.As for how to establish a non-repressive civilization,the path is to liberate the desire for love,and the specific method of liberating the desire for love is labor eroticization.Finally,in order to truly realize the bright future vision,whether it is non-repressive civilization or communism,the general revolution should be carried out at this stage.Finally,based on the study of the ideological origin,evolution and future trend of the contradiction between "Eros and Civilization"mentioned above,the author believes that this contradiction theory has some limitations,but the discussion of this contradiction provides a new solution to "how people should live"and opens up a new perspective for the study of Marx's theory of labor liberation,which has great theoretical value and significance.
