Children's learning of Chinese as a second language is an undeveloped area, in which studies of basic theory and application are much needed but are hard to find. Using the combined methods of observation, survey, and theory searching, we compare the way foreign children learn Chinese language with three other groups of language learners: Chinese children learning their native language; Chinese children learning a second language; and also foreign adults learning Chinese as a second language. The purpose of this study is to identify the significant learning features and disciplines peculiar to foreign children who learn Chinese as a second language.
