In the development of Chinese Traditional Mountains-Waters Painting for over 1000 years, the art styles have experienced continuous improvements and evolvements. It's a spontaneous pursuit to make exploration of the reality of the nature in the beginning of the mountains-waters painting. But, this realism of Chinese Traditional Mountains-waters Painting has taken root in the special realism of national aesthetic mentality. As the old saying: "Yi Xing Xie Shen", "Yin Wu Xiang Xing", "Si Yu Bu Yi Zhi Jian", those are vivid expression of this kind of realism, which destined that Chinese mountains-waters painting is different from the picture-like paintings. Instead, the soul of Chinese mountains-waters painting is "Wai Shi Zao Hua, Zhong De Xin Yuan", which means the combination of objective scenery and subjective aesthetic.However, it's ineluctable for some artists to pay more attention in the expression of subjective aesthetic feeling than in that of objective scenery, which leads to the formulation of Chinese mountains-waters painting. The root of Chinese mountains-waters painting lies in the nature, therefore, it's the precondition for realism to ensure the deep observation and research, what those great painters did in the creation of their own art styles, the classic works in nowadays.Mr.Li Keran, who is an acknowledged great artist in Mountains-Waters painting in modern times, created a brand-new style of this painting. What is worth of analysis is that his final success relies much on his sketch work in the fifties, during his life of study. On one side, after recollected research of the essence of the nature culture, he inherited and developed the good tradition of "Shi Cao Hua" nature sketch in the traditional mountains-waters painting, and applied the traditional realism into practice; on the other side, based on absorption of all kinds of painting styles, he introduced plenty of elements of western art into the sketch art in the process of research of more sorts of expression ways, finally becoming one of the greatest painter with the creation of his own art style.On the basis of great sum of information and real scene pictures, this essay tried to find out the relationship between the history of Mr.Li Keran's sketch art and the real headspring, and to discuss the new ideas which was brought by his creative art styles to the Chinese mountains-waters paintings, through the analysis of the realisam theory of the traditional mountains-waters and examples of the causality relationship between nature mountains-waters and painting art styles.
