In the later period of 1980's, a group of young authors came into existence on Chinese literary scene, whom created under the banner of structuralism and focused on narrative; whom advocated literary ontology, and managed to overturn the conventional literary notion and tradition, These, in the filed of novel, include Mayuan, Hongfeng, Yuhua, Sutong, Gefei, Yezhaoyan, Beicun, Sunganlu, Panjun, and so on. This school was named "Chinese avant-garde" by theorists. But in the 1990's, the group, which used to be ranked as a kind of experimental moment and literary tide, was disintegrated. This came to the notice of critics. YuHua was undoubtedly one of the most typical and influential author. Therefore he could be regarded as a representative example when we study the course of "Chinese avant-garde". His writing stood for the tendency, direction and certainty of the Chinese avant-garde.My paper is composed of three segments: I a integral and systematic analysis on the difference between Yuhua's earlier and later creative works, especially his fictions. In his fiction, the narrative language was changed from monologue to simplicity, and the narrative time was changed from ambiguity to accuracy, the attitude was changed from indifference and tension to tenderness and relaxation. In his object, he change from portraying the desires of human being to their characters. From demonstration, I'd like to conclude that Yuhua had a definite tendency of changing from avant-garde to reality. II Exploring on the causes of his shifting. Five aspects, which reveals the certainty of changing from avant-garde to reality, merit be concerned. They are some latent disadvantages in his avant-garde creation, influence exerted by foreign literature; changing of state and literary attitude, ways of handling with tradition and the real condition of creation. III Taking a view from the Chinese contemporary literature, I, while narrating on the change from avant-garde to realism in the 1990's, propose some question about literature: How can we handle the tradition in the literal creation? Is there any latent possibility of developing in literary creation?...
