Research On The Chinese Avant-Garde Theatre And Its Avant-Gardness

The thesis will discuss the avant-gardness of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre.Since 1980’s till now, Chinese Avant-garde theatre has gone through more than thirty years. In these years, it has passed from the stage to imitate the west to the conscious creation by itself so as to continually construct and improve its avant-gardness. It is the avant-gardness that goes ahead of the theatre art and makes Avant-garde theatre be able to explore consciously in different social stages, analyze complex humanity deeply, criticize and resist the contradiction in the social reality.When theatre art gradually becomes a kind of popular cultural consumption in the market based environment, Chinese Avant-garde theatre is on the wane under the commercial competition.Numerous researches about Avant-garde theatre from general comments, deep interpretation, to diachronic and comprehensive study have been conducted, which shows that researches on theatre are from the easy to the difficult process. The value of the avant-garde is questioned and the systemic study on the avant-gardness of Chinese Avant-garde theatre is rare. Therefore, regarding the avant-gardness as the core of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre, this thesis aims to explore the value and significance of avant-gardness to Chinese theatres even to the present development of art by discussing the different characters of the avant-gardness in the development of Chinese Avant-garde theatre, and analyzing the avant-gardness from the cultural and cognitive perspectives through the analysis of the avant-garde art’s surviving environment and the avant-gardeness works in the period of new China.The introduction part of this paper will point out the problem that the researches on Chinese Avant-garde theatre lack the discussion of the avant-gardness by summarizing the current situation of the studies on Chinese Avant-garde theatre from the theoretical and practical perspectives. According to the inadequacy of the previous researches, this thesis will analyze the avant-gardness of Chinese theatre from four aspects. Chapter one will explain the concept of the avant-gardness. Basing on the summarizing of theconcept of the avant-gardness and its changeable process, this paper explains the connotation of the avant-gardness according to its features in the changeable process,which is regarded as the theoretical support and the core of this paper. Chapter two will analyze Chinese Avant-garde theatre and its living context. The unique Chinese social and cultural environment is the soil for the emergence and development of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre. Through the observation of the revolution of ideological culture,literature art as well as internal environment of theatre, the background for the emergence and development of Chinese Avant-garde theatre can be restored to present the local character of the avant-gardness which is different from the west. Chapter three will analyze avant-gardness of the ideological content in the Chinese Avant-garde theatre. Starting with human, Chinese Avant-garde theatre pursuits human’s existence.Chapter four will discuss the manifestation of the avant-gardness of Chinese Avant-garde theatre. The characters of the avant-gardness of Chinese Avant-garde theatre will be explained through ideological content and art form by specific analysis of specific avant-garde theatre works. Chapter five will conduct value judge of the avant-gardness of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre. This chapter gives credit for the humane and aesthetic value of avant-gardness of Chinese Avant-garde theatre and also rethinks the insufficient presentation of the avant-gardness due to the effect of the external environment and self-limitation on the development of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre as well as the crisis faced by Chinese Avant-garde theatre. Lastly,the avant-gardness of the Chinese Avant-garde theatre will be summarized and its significance as well as its value to the times.
