Studies On Chinese "Persuading" Modality Adverbs

This paper holds that the"Persuading"modality adverbs in Chinese are those which are subjective adverbs and mean the speaker's admonishes and expect the listener to react according to his own will. The Chinese"Persuading"modality Adverb being the object of inspect and study, with the examples, the graph data, the contrast analysis and the induction summarizing, it describes the characteristics of the Chinese"Persuading"adverbs modality,and tries to make the academic circles have a basic understanding to it.The paper consists of five parts: First, preface; Second, the distribution of syntax; Third, semantic analysis; Fourth, the language studies with the function; Fifth, conclusion.This paper studies the adverbs with the"Persuading"semantic characteristics of:"hebu","hefang","hebi","heku","hexu","bubi","buru","buyong","buyao","bie","wuxu","bufang","haishi","zuihao","wuxu","wubi","bixu",and so on,and make an analysis with the multiple perspectives from the aspects of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. It aims to achieve one comprehensive understanding to it. It holds that:1. In the aspect of the distribution of syntax, it is quite universal for Chinese"Persuading"Modality Adverb both in"NP+ F规劝+ VP"and"F规劝+ P"in the syntax environment. However, it is not common in"F规劝+NP+ VP", not the mainstream.2. In the aspect of semantic characteristics, they don't completely have the same meaning at all. We have the following rank sequence according to the"Persuading"semantic intensity of the speaker, from strong toweak:(strong)wubi,bixu,wuxu -- bie,buyao,bubi,wuxu,buyong -- hebi,heku,hexu --hebu, hefang,bufang,buru,haishi,zuihao (weak) According to the intensity of the persuading expressions, the persuading expressions have the following rank sequence,from high to weak:(High strength) positive persuading expressions-- negative persuading expressions --tactful persuading expressions (Weak strength)3. In the aspect of pragmatics function, they have the function of language communications; meanwhile they display the difference of the pragmatics function between them, for example, the difference of sentiment internalization, of the sentence pattern, and of the pragmatics function, and so on.
