The late 1980s saw the emergence of avant-garde novels in Chinese literary circles. Mayuan and Gefei, who are representatives of Chinese avant-garde novels, challenged the aesthetic interest of traditional novels, and attempted to achieve new narrative forms and textual consciousness. They guided the trend of Chinese temporary novels into a new field. To a great extent, the advent of Chinese avant-garde novels was due to the influence of Post-modernism in the west. As part of the influence, Borges, an Argentina writer, has a significant effect on the Chinese avant-garde writers.Borges, who was making friends with all kinds of books in his life, has been loved by readers over the world. He has special writing methods, serious working attitude, erudite knowledge system, and philosophical personality. Many of his special narrative ways attract Chinese writers greatly, and help bring about the birth of Chinese avant-garde novels. Gefei, who has similar life experiences with Borges, has been called the Chinese Borges. When he started writing novels, Gefei tried to imitate Borges in his fictions, in terms of fictional contents and narrative techniques, such as meta-fiction, intertextuality, and absence and so on, in order to produce a double labyrinth of time and narrative. However, such influence can not cover the efforts of the Chinese avant-garde writers. As he writes more and more novels, Gefei walked out of the skills of Borges, and paid more attention to real life. Therefore, he has formed his unique writing styles. He tends to put a story into a certain historical period to give the history new meanings, and let one witness tell one aspect to complete the character. Although Gefei can not reach the level of Borges in terms of philosophical thinking, it is also unique, considering his original narrative styles and clear tone of writing.This thesis is based on the theory of influence study promoted by the French School in comparative literature. The theory pays attention to not only the influence of the source on the receiver, but also the innovation the receiver makes afterwards, as well as the cultural and historical factors which cause the differences. Besides, the theories of meta-fiction and intertextuality are also applied to the analysis representations of the influences in novels. It also attempts to reveal the cultural and historical backgrounds against which the innovations were made. It is conducive to the exploration of the acceptance of Borges in china, and to the study of the common ways in which the Chinese literary circles accept, absorb, and assimilate foreign theories and trends of thought.
