| Sheng Congwen's sex literature has aroused dispute since 1930s and his status in literature history has been influenced greatly accordingly. Up to now, there have been many articles which studied Sheng Congwen's Sex literature from the perspective of the writer himself and his works. This thesis will take another new perspective , that is, from the perspective of readers, review and analyze the reading and understanding history of Sheng's sex literature during the past 80 years based on the Wirkungsgeschicht concept from the western hermeneutic literature theory, and finally present different times' readers' understanding of Sheng Congwen's sex literature.The whole thesis includes foreword, text and conclusion. The foreword part consists of the explanation of basic theories, Sheng Congwen's fame changing history, a simple introduction of the research history about Sheng's literature, and the significance of this thesis from the perspective of the western hermeneutic literature theory.The text elaborates the understanding history of Sheng's work based on 4 phases. The first phase is the times before 1949, the author interpret the comments of different critics from the perspective of ideology and aesthetics. The second phase comes from 1930s to 1979. Researches carried out in mainland China and abroad would be reviewed and the reason of the pause of the research about Sheng Congwen's sex literature would be analyzed. The third phase mainly involves the 1980s, the interpretation of Sheng's work mainly from the perspective of ideology, aesthetics and culture. The final phase is mainly in the 1990s, it is a multianalysis times concerning ideology, culture, aesthetics, prototype and psychology. The conclusion part analyzed the changing understanding history of Sheng Congwen's sex literature based on the western hermeneutic literature theory, pointing out that the understanding history is in nature an exploiting process of the significance of Sheng Congwen's sex literature.
