The cultural contents taught as indispensable part in Second Language Teaching or Foreign Language Teaching are those closely related to target language understanding and expressed by it. They are some special contents reflecting a people's value, moral senses, basic necessities of life, customs and habits, tastes, ethics, life styles and ways of thinking, which are concealed in target language system and expressions. In Second Language Teaching, if the cultural contents are failed to be revealed, it is impossible for learners to understand target language, let alone communicate with it, therefore, research on this subject is an essential part of basic theories in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. This thesis is trying to make research on the cultural contents and manner of presentation of Hanyu Jiaocheng (《汉语教程》) (from one to three volumes) by means of content analysis to find out the Chinese cultural mode presented in the textbooks as well as its effects on learners, thereby, the findings will partly help authors of textbooks to revise the cultural contents and their manner of presentation during textbook writing, with the hope of improving learners' target culture acquisition.The thesis is consists of three chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the significance of this theme, and then it introduces the development of culture teaching in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from 1980 till now, and the research on cultural contents in textbooks and manner of presentation abroad. The second chapter mainly discusses research methodology: content analysis. According to process of content analysis, this chapter establishes analysis aim, samples, categories and variables in categories, analysis units, and it also discusses the significance of categories and variables, then it adapts research questions, finally, it makes the research tables and set the research parameters. The last chapter, chapter three, collects data to analyzes all the research questions by means of histograms, furthermore, it reveals the cultural mode created by Hanyu Jiaocheng and if they are accurate, authentic, appropriate, and explicit. In the end, the author brings forward for suggestions to textbook writing and teaching in classroom.
