In Qing dynasty, Nanchang was the provincial capital city of Jiangxi, simultaneously also was an important commodity distributing centre and regional economies centre in Jiangxi. During the peorid of the only trading port in Qing dynasty, this area once appeared prosperity of the transportation trade, the Nanchang urban economy and the society all obtained a certain degree development. After the opening of five ports, as a result of the change both in trade pattern and the trade route, the Gan river-Dayuling route was replaced by another which centering on Shanghai from east to west. The geographical superiority of Nanchang started to lose, simultaneously under other factor's influences, for example, the war, opening the port to trade and so on, the city economy, society, city and town pattern all had changed. Development and transformation also became comparatively circuitous slowly. This article has unfolded precisely the above Nanchang urban economy development and the reforming process in Qing dynasty through pertinent data combing, it has also promulgated the economical development bring influences on various aspects in the Nanchang city. From above-mentioned analysis, I draw following several conclusions: First, the prosperity of Nanchang before opening of five ports was benefit to the geography position superiority and the trade together policy in Qing dynasty. Second, after the opening of five ports, under foreign capitalism stimulating, the new style enterprises appeared in Nanchang. But it compared with other area such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, had limitation in starting late, found limitation, technical backwardness etc. As a result, it developed extremely slowly. The reason of slow development was also various. Third, development of city and traffic interact was influenced with each other. The amphibious transportation had the pivotal function to the Nanchang market system formation in Qing dynasty. Fourth, the pens of Jiujiang and the development in the new style traffic, strengthened Nanchang's lever function in Jiangxi Province domestic and foreign trade. Nanchang's drive function to the import and export of Jiangxi's goods were protruding obvious. At the same time, the town and city pattern which take Nanchang as the independent core was broken. The new pattern taking the Jiujiang - Nanchang as a middle axle appeared and formed preliminarily.
