The thesis, taking context as the central term and using adaptation theory (AT) by Jef Verschueren as the bases of the theory, does the meaningful exploration for the framework of dynamic adaptation to contexts in LT. Then, it selects the two English versions of Teahouse to provide the substantial evidences for such exploration. By such analysis, the thesis shows the immense value of AT for LT in theory and in practice. The thesis firstly generalizes the distinctive features of context study at present by introducing the history development of it. Next, it relates the several key notions of AT and finds out the joint point of applying AT to LT, thus it demonstrates the relationship between AT and LT. Then the thesis biefly states the framework of adaptation to different contexts in LT. With the aim of illustrating it adequately, finally the main part of the thesis concretely applies AT to the analysis of two English versions of Teahouse. It respectively analyzes the adaptation of linguistic context related to words, coherence and cohesion and the adaptation of communicative context in mental world, social words and physical world with many examples in Teahouse. Hopefully it can provide a new perspective for LT in theory and in practice.
