On The Application Of Adaptation Theory In PSE Translation

With the development of economy as well as science and technology and the improvement of scientific and cultural quality of the public,the spread of scientific knowledge is becoming more and more important.Popular science text plays a vital role in popularizing science and technology knowledge,advocating scientific methods,spreading scientific thought,promoting scientific spirit and improving people's scientific quality.But it is a big challenge on how to translate popular science text.The domestic and foreign research on PSE translation is relatively few and research material is deficient.The thesis attempts to study PSE translation from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory which is based on the characteristics of PSE.It aims to guide the practice of PSE translation by building the theoretical framework of the adaptation theory and then provides a new perspective and method for PSE translation.This thesis attempts to study the PSE translation from the perspective of linguistic structural adaptation,communicative contextual adaptation,dynamic adaptation and the adaptation of salience.This thesis emphasizes on the dynamic adaptation of the whole process of PSE translation and the translator's adaptation of salience.Because popular science text maintains four characteristics: science,literature,interest,popularity,so translator should take these characteristics into full consideration and choose suitable translation strategies and methods.According to the characteristics of popular science text,this thesis attempts to put forward the standard and principle of PSE translation from the perspective of the adaptation theory.The standard of PSE is not only to ensure scientificity of target text,the loyalty to the meaning of source text and the accuracy of conveying the scientific knowledge,but also to maintain the nature of artistic flexibility and ensure that target text must be simple,popular and eloquent.The principle of PSE is that translator should pay more attention to the dynamic adaptation of the process of PSE translation.
