Original Cause Of Zhuang Zi Philosophy On Life

They are well-known for their uniqueness , depth and variable styles. However, the main core, the deepest and the most valuable point is his philosophy on life. It contains subjective and objective reasons, which form the main basis of Zhuang Zi's philosophy on life. Through exploring and analyzing those reasons fully, we will be able to understand Zhuang Zi's philosophic thoughts thoroughly and directly. The author discusses the issues within three aspects.The first aspect is cognitive basis. It refers to cognition about the universe and nature which involves several important concepts in ancient China. They are Dao, De, Tian and Ming. Zhuang Zi's outlook on life is based on the understanding and master of these concepts. Even we can say that Zhuang Zi understood and mastered the nature and universe in order to come to realize human life. Zhuang Zi's wisdom lies on the level of Dao and Tian. Through knowing Tian to knowing human being. In this part, Zhuang Zi's cognition on universe and nature and understanding of life are integrated. It shows that they are the cognitive basis and premise of ZHuang Zi's philosophy on life to understand and master these concepts.The second aspect is social foundationd. It refers to understanding human being and human society. As we all know, philosophy on life is built/constructed on the basis of understanding human being and human society. In Zhuang Zi's view, there was an ideal living state in the earlier time of human society. At that time, people were sincere and harmonious. With the development and evolution, human being inevitably entered a state of social survival. Social structure and human nature began to alienate followed by the such abuses as monarch power, wars, poverty and wealth, cruel politics and torture, desire for fame and interests,excluding outsiders and flattering superior, etc.They put human survival in a dilemma. However, these are the inevitable result when human society is in a survival state. That means human being's pains and sufferings can not be eliminated once and for all. Due to this understanding, Zhuang Zi advocated wandering experice and pusure the spiritual freedom to desalinate personal sufferings and transform survival state.The third area is culture basis. It is cultural deriation of Zhuang Zi's philosophy on life. Zhuang Zi absorbed those which he shared ideas with and discarded those he had cirticized. Both absorbtion and discard had a positive influence on his theory from two sides. Confucianism and the mohist shool had great impact on Zhauang Zi. Secondly, the style of being a hermit had a long history, it is an undoubtful fact which can be proved by numerous hermits and their deeds. Zhuang Zi had discovered the great spiritual characters such as uncoventionality and freedom.These are the practical foundation on which he constructed and built his own system of philosophy on life and, are immediate models of his ideal design about How Should People Survive. Thirdly, Zhuang Zi's philosophy on life relates to its particular regional culture. Yin and Shang culture was handed down in Song kindom. Under the rule of Zhou Dynasty, though Song culture processed intercommunicating with Jizhou culture, it still remains the Shang culture as the basis. The unique and subtle thoughts and style of writing of Zhuang Zi benifited from the potential deposit of Yin and Shang culture.
