Fujian Seagod Worship And The Ritual

From the ancient times, the folk belief in Fujian Province has kept highly prevailing, and the seagod worship was the key and indispensable one. Starting with the evolvement of the ancient seagod worship in Fujian, this paper analyzes its development among the four history periods of before Western Han, from Western Han to Tang Dynasty, the Five Dynasties to Song Dynasty, and Yuan Dynasty to Qing Dynasty respectively. Narrating the rituals to the Fujian seagod, this paper puts emphasis on the different ritual ways in different people, such as fishermen, sea merchants, officials and overseas emigrations. Finally, the paper gives the analysis of the relationship between the Fujian seagod worship and the Fujian local society, together with the characteristics of the Fujian seagod worship.
