Abstract/Summary:
This paper points out the translator's active role in the translation process based on the analysis of the translated versions of examples.Chapter 1 mainly introduces the research purpose, and the applied theory involved in the paper. With the further development of the translation research, the translator's role is increasingly outstanding and the key to the translation studies, especially Relevance Theory applied in the translation. The theory studies the unique role of the translator in the translation process, based on the cognitive aspect to show the significance of the translator. Relevance Theory is a kind of theory in the language communication. With Gutt applied this theory into the translation studies, he points out that translator plays a key role in the translation process. The optimal relevance means that the relevance being existed between the original writer and the target language reader. In this case, the translator is the key factor in the optimal relevance.Chapter 2 mainly introduces models of the translation process. Translation studies have been researched for a long time, many translation theorists at home and abroad made a large amount of the studies in the translation activities and translation process. Since the 1950s, linguistics has began to come into the translation studies, which further developed the translation research, Communication theory, Functional Theory and the Relevance Theory mentioned before expand the research of the translation studies, which make the translation study become the multiple and cross subject's development.Chapter 3 generally analyzes the translation process of the literary translation. In the translation especially in the literary translation, the translator is both a special reader and special writer. That is, the translator reads and understands the source text for certain purpose, and then the translator will convey the spirit and style of the source text to the target readers.Chapter 4 analyzes the literary translation in the Relevance Theory based on the examples taken from the translation of Pride and Prejudice. According to the analysis, the paper is to value the translated versions and shows that the translator is the key role in the target readers' understanding of the source text and the underlying meaning of the source text.Chapter 5 mainly analyzes the translator. The regularity and fair competition of the translation market largely depend on the qualities of the translator or the qualities the translators should have.Then it comes to a conclusion. The translator plays an important role in the translation process, which directly influences the style of the source text conveyed. The qualified translator is one of the key factors in the development of the native translation studies.
