The Analysis Of Absurdity In Beckett's Drama

S.Beckett is the famous "Absurd" playwright in France. He has not only completed many outstanding works in novel and poetry, but also made great achievement in drama. Many scholars have done a wide range of research on the structure and content of Beckett's drama. Basing on the study of Beckett's drama and other scholars'review, I gave the full detail of unique creative way in Beckett's drama in this paper. As for the absurdity in Beckett's drama, I summarized three parts as the following ----absurd art forms, absurd social relations and absurd state of survival. On this basis, I tried to reveal the embarrassing predicament theme of human existence in Beckett's drama.The thesis is composed of three parts.In the first part, I discussed absurd art forms in Beckett's drama. It mainly embodies the following three aspects: fuzzy character, absurd language and absurd action. In traditional drama works, the unique personality is one of the important factors to show the drama's real vitality. And only in the intense conflict, the personality can be characterized profoundly. At the same time, Characters also decides the language, action and thinking. But Beckett uses different tactics writing, in his drama works, there is not only no complete story but also no intense dramatic conflict. That's the reason why the characters in the Beckett's drama become blurred. The absurdity of language in drama performances the following aspects: repeat, ambiguous and incomprehensible hodgepodge. In the dialogue of people, language demonstrates the feature of silence and pause. The absurdity of action in the Beckett's drama embodies the mechanical movements and repeatability. Incoherent remarks, mechanical movements and confusion thinking makes hero and heroine live in the confusion indecision state, and they lose themselves.The second part of the article discusses the absurd social relations in Beckett Theatre. It mainly contains people-to-people relations and the relationship between persons and beings. In Beckett's drama works, people often lose their names, which make the relationship between them become fuzzy. At the same time, the relationship between the husband and wife, father and son, friend and friend also become absurd. However, they have to depend on each other, because their environment for the survival is very poor. But they do not understand each other. They would not communicate and exchange smoothly. The absurdity relationship between persons and objects includes two areas: First, as a threat to the survival of mankind, the objects are in the same situation as the human. Second, people are no longer the owner of the objects, but become the slaves of them. All kinds of social relations become absurd.The third part of article discusses the absurd survival state of hero and heroine in the Beckett's drama. It primarily reflects the environment for survival and the survival sense. The environment is an integral part of literary works. In the drama works, Beckett uses different writing way from the traditional drama. And he makes the time and space in the drama become blurred. As the time and space depictions, Beckett uses the stage props, lighting design and symbolic means ingeniously. The purpose is to reveal the bad living environment of mankind. Living in such an environment, although people have a glimmer of hope and pursuit, but with the passage of time, all of them have lost in their futile "waiting".
