| Er-ren-tai is a local drama combines many forms including folk songs and dances, narration and instrumental music, etc. It has experienced one hundred years and is very popular in Shanxi province, Shaanxi province, Inner Mongolia and Hebei province. It is also adored by people in these regions with a century's development. Over one century accumulations have resulted a repertory of close to more than one hundred plays, with a characteristic basic instrumentation of mei (flute), sihu (four-string fiddle) and yangqin (dulcimer) as accompanying instruments. For its specific local characteristics, er-ren-tai has been still a part of people's social life.The er-ren-tai in Inner Mongolia has been divided into two parts—the east road and the west road. The er-ren-tai in Wu Yuan region that represents the west road. This paper will make a research about Wu Yuan opera group, Wu Yuan amateur second group and third group. I've made a detailed investigation" about the member composition, management and operation, the performance situation and the role it plays. From the description and analysis, we can see clearly the survival situation of Wu Yuan er-ren-tai.The main measure of this paper is ethnomusicology, and I've combined literatures of er-ren-tai, used of relevant disciplines of knowledge, and from the protection of intangible cultural heritage of vision, I hope provide a corroboration, that is: the folk art originated from the folk people, and it must be back to the people for a natural growth, for the authentic art only has the survival space and power of life among the folk people. I hope, I can offer some efforts for the protection of er-ren-tai.
