Even though studying visual arts from the perspective of folk arts is no longer an unfamiliar subject, same thing can not be said of the topic of studying poster designs from the perspective of re-creation of folk art elements. This article aims to study the theory and methods of applying elements of Chinese folk arts into modern poster designs, with an emphasis on the importance of recreating elements and spirits of Chinese folk arts culture into modern poster designs. The article is divided into five parts. The foreword starts by presenting the concept of poster design, defining the elements of "folk arts" and the meaning of re-creation. It also points out that folk art is one of the creative resources of Chinese thinking, and that it holds important value to the creativity of modern society. The text is divided into three parts: the current status of using folk art elements in poster design; the affinity between poster design and folk arts; poster design as means of understanding the re-creation of folk art elements. The author wants to illustrate the re-creation functionalities of poster design in applying folk art elements, which facilitates the creation of new posters with various cultural styles. The conclusion section emphasizes that traditional folk arts and modern poster designs are often derived from the same heritage, with the former provides adequate nutrition for the growth of the latter. The thesis tries to elaborate on the premise of poster design as re-creation of folk art elements, and attempts to serve as a reference for the research on the modern poster designs.Because of the difficulty of the research perspective, the verbal representation of the poster designs argued by this thesis is not simply a transplant or reassembly of the folk art elements into the poster designs, but rather, the author strives to study on the ways to do it through Chinese people's identity with folk culture, so that the resulting poster designs would carry local ethnic identity, as well as occupy a respected place on the international stage. Folk art is an important building block of ethnic culture. It is also an invaluable resource for a country's development of design arts. Only by starting from a deep understanding of our own spiritual treasure and cultural foundation, and by re-creation of our cultural characteristics and modeling methods into a new design language, can we finally create modern poster designs with the above attributes.
