It is worth exploring judgment, classification, cause, method and development prospects of neology in modern Chinese in the new era. The neology in the new era not only includes the words with new sense in the form of Chinese character, but also includes the words in the form of letters with new meaning. The emergence of these letter-composed words and Arabic figures with special meanings has made a great impact on the traditional concept of language. The emergency of new things and new phenomenon and the changes of social-psychology is the social basis of the neology in the new era. In addition, the metaphor thinking and metaphor mapping are also important factors contributing to its appearance. The arbitrariness of linguistic sign and the rationale of it compose a harmonious and integrated body. The appearance of the neology is not the result of purely arbitrary combination of sound and meaning. Instead, it emerges on the ground of the relevance of meaning or the similarity of sounds, with rational as its motives. In the new era, the effective standardization of the neology is indispensable, for only the standard words with new sense can have access to static and standard vocabulary system, with which the existing general and basic words are combined with to form new words with same homonyms and same characters or develop a new sense of the existing general words or that of existing basic words.
